John Askia Breckenridge was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 20, 1970 to Barbara Annette Avery Breckenridge and John Ernest Langdon Breckenridge. Following employment opportunities, the family moved south to Cincinnati, Ohio when John was small. He quickly adapted to Southern Ohio. John had an interesting childhood growing up in Roselawn. In high school he was active in track and youth in city government. Following his graduation from Woodward High School, John attended Judson College in Elgin, IL. There he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in history with a minor in business administration.
After Judson, John returned to Cleveland. He worked as a social worker for a period, then he taught elementary school at Second New Hope, before choosing a career as a Mortgage Loan Originator at PNC Bank. Prior to his work at PNC Bank, John served in the United States Marine Corp. John also co-hosted a radio show every Sunday on KAZ radio with Derellya Freeman, his best friend who he called his sister. "What's Going On with Lady Dee & Sir John" streamed live every week on KAZ and about 10 other channels. Due to his love for NE Ohio, John has lived from Cleveland Heights, OH to Lorain, OH before settling in Lakewood, OH where he had resided since 2006.
A devout Christian, John found his faith early at his home church, Montgomery Community Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ohio, near Cincinnati. He attended Christian camp every summer at Kirkwood & Judson Hills camps in Ohio from 3 rd grade through the 10 th grade. These Christian camps helped strengthen his faith and contributed to his love of nature, affinity with animals, and choice to attend the Christian school of Judson College.
John was also an avid reader. He was fond of science fiction, politics, religious texts, and history books. Along with his passion for reading he was a writer and published a book of poetry. John leaned toward many esoteric ideas and loved to debate. He was very extroverted and the life of the party wherever he went. John had a boisterous laugh and was a very fun and friendly person. He cared deeply for his friends and family. If John called you a friend – he meant it. And, if you were a family member he would always be there to help if he could.
John passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 17th, 2021.
