Erma was born on February 11, 1935 in Mobile, Alabama to the late George and Hattie Tolbert. She was the fifth of eight children. (Six preceded her in death).
Erma was educated in the Mobile County School System. Erma accepted Christ and was baptized at the Providence Baptist Church in Grand Bay, Alabama.
Erma married the love of her life, Melvin Dickenson (deceased). The family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. To that union, six children were born: Alvin, Milton, Bernadine, Melvin Jr, Gwendolyn, and Brenda.
Erma entered the work world as a waitress, but became a manager in the food service industry, where she met and married Bobbie Armstrong (deceased). Erma loved to bowl, and for over 10 years won many trophies! She loved playing cards and bingo with family and friends. She was a little league coach for G.Y.A.A. (Glenville Youth Athletic Association).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, six siblings and her son Alvin L. Dickenson.
Erma went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Milton L. Dickenson (Arizona), Bernadine Acoff (Elisha), Melvin Dickenson Jr., Gwendolyn Lucas (Marcus), Brenda Dickenson. Two sisters: Elizabeth Davis, and Martha Dickenson (both of Dawes, Alabama); 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Erma had three special friends: Essie Johnson, Patricia Johnson, and Marsha Jackson.
